Philosophy The gate as a definition of connected space The Taman Luas logo represents the philosophical concept of the gate that brings indoor and outdoor spaces together. The gate aims to connect humans with the environment, enabling them to live in harmony with nature and achieve a better lifestyle. Our vision is to create a garden that suits the client's needs, is unique, and integrates with the surrounding environment. Lead by Irawan Ardutarecha, who has more than 10 years of experience in landscape design and construction with an architecture background. He worked for the architecture firm Birano Jakarta as an architect, but along the journey, he found his passion for landscapes and plants. In 2013, he joined Bali Landscape Company, a landscape firm designing and building. Afterward, he joined an international company called SiteDesign+Studio which is based in Sydney, as a landscape designer. He started to establish his own landscape company in 2024, Taman Luas , with the legal name PT DBali Taman Luas as a PT (Perseroan Terbatas). The company's business involves landscape master planning, design, and construction, which includes maintenance. Taman Luas is responsible for both the design and construction of landscape projects in Indonesia. Taman Luas' objective is to spread value to the community by designing landscapes worldwide and sustaining environmental sustainability by utilizing local materials and plants. Landscape products consistently incorporate distinctive outdoor spaces and landscape designs that support architectural buildings in creating beautiful environments for living that improve the quality of life. PROJECT NARATION Starting from a brief from the client who wanted a Japanese garden concept with a modern touch, this private residence in the Kuta-Bali area embraces an industrial style, inspiring the creation of a Japanese garden with modern-industrial elements. This is reflected in the use of minimalist lights made from exposed materials, along with white sandstone that contrasts with the dark river stones, echoing the home’s dominant white color and black-framed glass windows. The garden features plants that require minimal maintenance, which was key in selecting species, as the residence serves as a retirement home. The initial collaboration with the client led to a final concept after several stages of design revisions, culminating in a Japanese garden with a modern, minimalist-industrial ambiance and easy maintenance. PROJECT NARATION The client’s appreciation for Balinese culture became an integral part of the design concept for the private residence, extending into the character and identity of the garden. Traditional Balinese elements, including garden lighting, Balinese sculptures, and a distinctive Balinese gate, were carefully incorporated to create a landscape that reflects the cultural character of Bali while remaining harmonious with the residence. The golf course located behind the property became a key consideration in the selection and placement of vegetation. Planting was carefully arranged to preserve the existing views from the second-floor rooms, ensuring that the landscape enhanced the surroundings without obstructing the visual connection to the golf course. To support efficient and consistent garden maintenance, the entire landscape irrigation system was designed as an automatic system, allowing the planting to receive adequate and controlled watering with minimal manual intervention. PROJECT NARRATION The Dude House's landscaping is based on a tropical garden concept, with tall palm trees used as barriers from the surrounding area on the garden's sides. To create a fresh and cozy atmosphere on the side of the house, a vertical garden with a variety of plants is designed. Along with the Lee Kwan Yew plant, low-maintenance plants are also positioned on the first floor of the building to soften the building's facade. PROJECT NARRATION According to the environment, in this Aliyah project garden's design adopts the idea of a dry garden. With this idea, the garden will retain its aesthetic appeal while being low-maintenance and able to withstand harsh conditions. Cactus and agave were among the low-water-use plants chosen in this garden. The pathway that leads to the sunken seating area is made of stone and has a water feature in the middle of it. Local materials are used to create the hardscape on this project to keep it in harmony with the environment. PROJECT NARRATION Landscape project for Adam Villa that combines a Balinese-style gate design and a Ganesha statue as an accent at the entrance. The garden plant is adapted to the site conditions, where the temperature is relatively hot. To create a green and shady impression, it's essential to use plants that are resistant to these conditions but can still be used as shade plants. The plants we use are tall tropical plants in the front area, while the back area uses coastal arrangement plants to minimize maintenance as well as to prevent them from blocking the potential view around the site. PROJECT NARATION This project began with the client’s concern — as they are from Russia — about finding the right plant species for their new home. We started with in-depth discussions to select plant varieties based on their character, leaf shape, and suitability to the surrounding environment. Once an agreement was reached, all plant types — from tall trees and smaller ornamental trees to ground cover plants — were translated into detailed 3D visualizations to help the client easily envision the final outcome. The landscape design embraces a tropical yet elegant concept — intentionally organic and slightly untamed, but still rich in character. The choice of grass was also carefully considered to reflect the look and feel of grasses native to the client’s home country. The garden renovation was developed based on the client’s needs and inspired by the spirit of Tri Hita Karana, with the aim of creating an outdoor space that is both functional and sustainable. The design process began with discussions with the client, who expressed the desire for a garden that would be easy to maintain, pet-friendly, and capable of preserving the existing plants. In response to these requirements, we developed a lush tropical garden concept that is well suited to the local climate and environment. To create a pet-friendly outdoor space, we selected loose decorative gravel and applied a suitable binding adhesive to stabilize the surface. This helps prevent the gravel from scattering when the garden is used as a play area for pets, while maintaining a natural and aesthetically pleasing appearance. PROJECT NARATION The villa is located in the Uluwatu hills of Bali, an area characterized by a dry climate and generally hot temperatures. The client envisioned a home that offers maximum privacy and security while incorporating a clean green garden that is lightweight in design and easy to maintain. The initial inspiration came from the clean, minimalist, and well-organized aesthetics of Japanese gardens. This concept is reflected in several elements throughout the landscape, including natural stones, garden lighting, bonsai trees, and ornamental chives. The client also has a beloved pet cat that they wish to allow to roam freely within the property while ensuring its safety. As a result, tree selection became one of the key considerations in the design. The solution was to incorporate locally available Sakura trees, characterized by their fine, dense branches, which make them less comfortable for cats to climb. Japanese golf grass was also selected for the garden to minimize the need for frequent mowing. This approach allows the garden to remain neat and well-maintained while reducing maintenance requirements, enabling the gardener to visit only once a month.
